This Land
This land is not your land, and this land is not my land, From California to the New York Island From the clear cut forests to poisonous Gulf Stream Waters, This land is not for you and me. As I went walking that ribbon of highway And I saw above me that polluted skyway I saw below me that strip mine, This land was stolen from you and me. I tried to roam and ramble and to follow my footsteps But the dust of radioactive sands of her lifeless deserts, All around me a thousand voices crying that This land ruined for you and me. There iss a big high wall there that stops me Sign was painted, said, "For CIS White Only" strand of barbed wire on the top, blood dripping, This land no longer for you or me. When the sun no longer shining, then I am stumbling over bodies rotting And the vultures circling and the clouds of flies rolling A million voices screaming as the smog is drifting This land no longer for you and me. This land was your land, and this land was my land from desecrated forests to stinking gulf stream waters, This land destroyed by greed, no longer for you and me.
